helping hands community centre
The helping hands Centre is a sustainable project in the heart of the community delivering a wide range of services. Trustees, staff and volunteers have developed a vacated infant school building to provide a community facility that has responded to community need. The size of the building and the site allows for new projects and has the flexibility to respond to changing needs dating back to 2002. D.M.B.C. provide a long term lease of the building to the charitable company and this lease has over 20 years to run.
Partnerships are key to our success. The site has a pre-school childcare facility provided by Buttons Day Nursery & the Family Hub is opening a base onsite in the summer of this year.
The site is home to Shedheads CIC & Altogether 4 Autism (which is a group that supports adults with autism) as well as an Internet Hub, onsite Charity Shop and a Community Cafe.
Working partners include D.M.B.C., HM Courts & Tribunals Service, Department for Work and Pensions, NHS, Public Health, Well Doncaster Communities, D.A.R.T.S, Adult Family Learning and Good Things Foundation among many others.
The aims of the organisation are to support the community both socially and economically; with the relief of unemployment through job search facilities and health and wellbeing initiatives. We Strive to Empower the community by supporting those who need a "helping hand" giving them the tools to grow and develop new skills.
The strength brought to the project is in the volunteering of many people of all ages and backgrounds to help deliver our core aims. There are lots of ways to start your helping hands experience and our team of dedicated staff and volunteers are on hand to assist and guide you through your journey. We believe helping hands is one of the largest community centre's in Doncaster, providing the widest range of services.
The helping hands Communty Centre is a major contributor to the self-help regeneration of the community. Our engagement with people builds capacity in individuals and provides the helping hands that will empower the community; to support the community.
Join our team
helping hands would not be what it is without the support of its team of community helpers. Our volunteer programme has successfully developed and grown from strength to strength.
The reasons to volunteer are as diverse as the volunteers themselves, whether it is to make a difference, gain skills, meet new people or improve health and wellbeing. It also enriches our society.
Not only is volunteering important because it helps to better your community, it also helps to better you as an individual.
Volunteering is a free way to feel good about yourself and is a rewarding and challenging experience as well as an opoportunity to gain skills that improve your employment opportunities.
